Scholarship

The family of Dr. Lewis A. Jackson has established a scholarship in his memory to help Greene County youth obtain training leading to careers in aviation. The Jackson Aviation Scholarship will be administered by the Jackson Aviation Scholarship Committee, which reports to the Greene County - Lewis A. Jackson Regional Airport Authority. Scholarship funds may be used to: (a) introduce high school and college age students to flight training, (b) help a student pilot obtain a Private Pilot's License, and (c) help a licensed pilot obtain an advanced rating. Training is to be conducted at the Greene County - Lewis A. Jackson Regional Airport.

Lewis A. Jackson Aviation Scholarship Established

Applicants for the Jackson Aviation Scholarship must be junior high school, high school, or college students. To apply, an applicant must submit

img an essay stating why the student wants and needs the scholarship

img what preparation toward an aviation career the student has already accomplished

img academic qualifications i.e., courses taken and grades achieved

img letters of recommendations from teachers, instructors, scout leaders, etc.

img 2023 scholarship has been awarded - check back in 2024 for an application!

Student pilots working toward a private pilot's license must hold a current Third Class flight physical. Licensed pilots working toward an advanced rating must have passed the applicable written examinations and hold a current flight physical commensurate with the rating being sought. Dr. Lewis A. Jackson was a long-time resident of Xenia, Ohio, an educator (Wilberforce University, Central State University, and Sinclair College), a licensed pilot, a certified flight instructor, a licensed aircraft and engine mechanic, an airplane designer and builder, and community leader. During World War II Dr. Jackson was the civilian chief of flight instruction for the Tuskegee Airmen. Dr. Jackson was a charter member of the Greene County Regional Airport Authority and instrumental in the construction of the Greene County Airport. The Airport was later named in his honor.
